Alexander Kitaev

Photographer, curator, photography historian. Born in 1952, Leningrad. Member of the Union of photo artists of Russia (1992), Union of artists of Russia (1994). Worked as a factory metalworker (1970-1978). Graduated from the faculty of press photography (University of working correspondents (“rabcor”) at the Leningrad House of journalists). Was a member of different photo unions: photo-clubs VDK (Vyborg palace of culture), “Druzhba” (1972-1982); “Zerkalo” (1987-1988). Worked as a photographer at a shipyard (1978-1999). Member of the Organizing Council for the festival “Traditional autumn Photo marathon” (1998-2003). Since 1999 – a freelance artist. In 2000 organized a publishing house “Art-Tema”, which specialized in publishing photo art related editions (art-director, 2000-2001). Editor of the “Art-Mansarda” section in the Net magazine “Peter-club” (2000-2001). Art-director for the “Raskolnikov” photo gallery (2004-2005). Author of over seventy solo exhibitions, that took place in Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Greece, Italy, Switzerland. Participated in over 150 group exhibitions. From 1996 to 2008 curated 17 exhibition projects. Author of texts on history of photography, author/compiler of numerous albums and books. Scholarship from the Administration of Paris (2006).
